Engage MIT on the world's future energy challenges
The scope of the world's energy problems calls for a comprehensive portfolio of responses to environmental, economic, scientific, security, and political issues.
Under the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI), Institute researchers are hard at work on this portfolio, addressing alleviating immediate shortage, security, and environmental concerns. We are also working to find secure, economically viable, and environmentally sustainable energy sources.
MITEI's Member Programs provide a critical link in the energy innovation chain — the pairing of MIT's world-class research teams with the best in industry who are responsible for moving many of the products of this collaboration into the energy marketplace. Most importantly, these programs provide key focus, research opportunities and critical funding for the next generation of energy technologists. All Members are invited to the annual MITEI Research Conference and multiple events of interest to the energy community and receive MITEI publications.
A Founding Member supports sponsored research projects — "flagship" energy research projects of special interest to the Member — and provides seed funding for early-stage innovative research projects across the campus. The contribution also supports a variety of educational activities, at the center of which is the appointment of a number of graduate and post-doctoral Named Energy Fellows at MIT each year. Founding Members have a permanent seat on the MITEI Executive Committee. Commitment level: $5 million per year for 5 years.
A Sustaining Member supports sponsored research projects of special interest to the Member and provides seed funding for early-stage innovative research projects across the campus. The contribution also supports two graduate-level Named Energy Fellows at MIT each year. Sustaining Members have a rotating seat on the MITEI Executive Committee. Commitment level: $1 million per year for 5 years.
An Associate Member's contribution supports a Named Energy Research Fellow at MIT in addition to supporting a range of selected MIT energy research, education and campus activities. Commitment level: $100,000 per year.
A contribution from an MITEI Affiliate Member advances the overall goals of the Initiative by providing discretionary funds that can be targeted to high priority student activities or by targeting specific student-oriented programs. Affiliate Commitment level: $5,000 per year.
